Harlem P. Ma-at is involved in the Firm’s Corporate Finance Practice Group, Capital Markets Practice Group, Taxation Practice Group, and Labor and Employment Practice Group.
Before becoming a lawyer, Harlem practiced as a Certified Public Accountant. He started his career in SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co., an affiliate of Ernst & Young Global. Thereafter, his work experience includes being a Fund Accountant for a multinational investment bank and a Tax Accountant for a Business Process Outsourcing company.
Harlem completed his Juris Doctor degree while working full time. In obtaining his Juris Doctor title, he stayed true to his work experience by writing a thesis about how certain amendatory provisions in the Tax Code violate the equal protection guarantee of the Constitution to employees of various corporations.
After taking the bar examination, he joined the Firm and proactively handled various engagements which involves multi-jurisdictional transactions, public offerings of securities, mandatory tender offers, mergers and acquisitions, contracts review, cross-border tax implications, tax planning and compliance, tax advisory, estate planning and settlement, due diligence, and special transactions.
Harlem completed his Juris Doctor degree at Ateneo de Manila University – School of Law and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2020.
Harlem is a member of both the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
